Description:
HPMC Hydroxy Propyl Methyl Cellulose is a kind of propanediol ethers of Methyl Cellulose. It is also a kind of non-ionic cellulose ether. HPMC Hydroxy Propyl Methyl Cellulose is white to off-white fibrous powder or granule. It can dissolve in water and some organic solvents, but not soluble in ethanol. The equeous solution of HPMC has surface activity and a layer of film is formed after drying. The ratio of Methoxyl and Hydroxypropyl is different with different specifications.
Physicochemical property:
HPMC is white powder with tasteless, odourless and non-toxic. In human body it has no change and is eliminated from the body completely. It is easily dissoved in water and form a kind of colourless and transparent viscous liquid.

Production Process:
The production process of HPMC is like this, purified cotton → add caustic soda → solvent treatment → etherification → water scrubbing → centrifugalization → dry. In food industry, HPMC can be used as thickening agent, stabilizer, emulgator and gelatinizing agent.
HPMC, as hydrophilic gel matrix material, is the most popular controlled released preparation now. The matrix will expand with water or digestive juic and then form gel barrier to control the release of medicines.
