In cosmetics, Vitamin C and copper ion interfere the production of melanin by interaction at the activity area of tyrosinase, which has a very good effect of whitening, removing freckle and diminish inflamation. L-Ascorbic Acid is a hydrophilic and unstable molecule. Its penetrability to the skin is not good because of hydrophobicity of cuticle. Besides, L-Ascorbic Acid is a kind of electrically charged molecule. Its unstability further constrains the penetrability to the skin. An effective way is to add ferulic acid which can make the transformation of Vitamin C from electrically charged to no charged and meanwhile reduce the acidity of L-Ascorbic Acid to less than 3.5. Thus L-Ascorbic Acid can keep stable and penetrate the cuticle.
